2021 Honda Odyssey vs. 2021 Toyota Sienna

Date: February 17th, 2021

2021 Honda Odyssey vs 2021 Toyota Sienna
Today’s minivans may not get the heart pounding like a sexy Italian sports car, but to Denver moms and dads with gaggles of kidlets and their gear, vans are a thing of beauty. If you’re looking for the best minivans in Denver, there’s one that sets the standard for spaciousness, versatility, innovative features, and outstanding safety: The 2021 Honda Odyssey.
We sell a lot of Odysseys here at our Denver Honda dealership because the Odyssey is one of the most successful and popular minivans ever to hit America’s roadways. Of course, Honda’s van isn’t the only one on the market. So, what about the competition? Let’s take a look at the 2021 Toyota Sienna and see how it matches up against the 2021 Honda Odyssey. (Spoiler alert: the good guy wins this one by a mile.)

Classy Sophistication vs Controversial Design

Sexy Italian sports cars aside, we think the Odyssey is one of the best-looking minivans you can buy.

The Odyssey gets style points for its sporty grille flanked by a string of dazzling LED headlights. Instead of a drab slab, sculpted creases, chrome accents, and an aerodynamic roofline give it a fresh, classy appearance. Darkened rear windows cleverly hide the track for the sliding doors. New for 2021 are stylish, available 19-inch alloy wheels that add some bling to the Odyssey’s sporty curb appeal.

A controversial minivan? The 2021 Toyota Sienna stands out for its design. But that’s not necessarily a good thing. Just ask Motortrend.com, which calls the Sienna’s huge front grille and bulbous “bullet-train” nose “flashy and wacky.”

Odyssey’s Class-Leading Interior Outclasses Sienna

2021 Honda Odyssey Interior

The 2021 Toyota Sienna is simply no match for the 2021 Honda Odyssey’s roomy interior that takes versatility and innovation to new levels of convenience and comfort.

You won’t find the Odyssey’s exclusive, available MagicSlide® 2nd-row seats on the Sienna or any other minivan for that matter. They give you unsurpassed flexibility by moving them forward, backward, or from side to side, or by removing them completely to maximize cargo space.

By comparison, the Sienna offers two non-removable, optional 2nd-row captain’s chairs that limit the Sienna’s versatility, says Motor Trend’s Miguel Cortina. “Unfortunately, access to the third row is not as convenient between the captain’s chairs due to the long center console. “Once you make it all the way back,” he adds, “the small side windows contribute to a claustrophobic experience.”

Another clever feature you won’t find on the Sienna is the Odyssey’s available built-in HondaVAC® that makes it a breeze to keep its vast inner space neat and tidy. Plus, the Odyssey’s more spacious interior put it miles ahead of the Sienna by just about every measure:

Odyssey Powers Ahead of Sienna

The 2021 Honda Odyssey powers ahead of the 2021 Toyota Sienna with its lively and responsive 280-hp, 3.5-liter, i-VTEC V6 engine that delivers an exceptional 262 lb.-ft of torque at 6000 rpm. Mated to a smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission, this potent powerplant is available across all trim levels.

Compare this to the Sienna’s more anemic 2.5-liter, four-cylinder hybrid engine that generates just 245 hp at 6000 rpm. As Motor Trend’s Senior Features Editor Jonny Lieberman points out: “The more I drive the Sienna, the more it feels like a big Prius to me. And I mean that in a bad way.”

When it comes to ride quality, the Honda Odyssey gets accolades while the Sienna gets a failing grade. Just ask Mark Rechtin, Motor Trend’s editor-in-chief, who says: “The [Sienna’s] suspension feels burdened and responds poorly to big road impacts.”

Odyssey Tech is Tops

Honda Odyssey Technology

Today’s modern families crave the tops in tech and the Odyssey delivers with an array of cutting-edge technologies that put it in a class by itself. Parents will especially appreciate the Odyssey’s class-exclusive, available CabinWatch® and available CabinControl® systems that let them see what’s going on in the back seat, communicate with rear-seat passengers, and let passengers adjust the temperature and even their music playlists from their compatible smartphones.

You can’t see your rear-seat passengers with the Sienna’s optional intercom system. Additionally, the Sienna’s infotainment system, which Motor Trend calls “outdated,” is a step behind the Odyssey’s full-featured infotainment capabilities. These include available Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, Bluetooth®, and an available Wi-Fi Hotspot that lets the whole family stay connected.

Odyssey Takes Safety Seriously

Nothing is more important to Honda than protecting you and your precious cargo. That’s why Honda goes the extra mile when it comes to safety by offering its advanced Honda Sensing active safety features as standard equipment on every Honda. These include Collision Mitigation Braking, Road Departure Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, Lane-Keeping Assist, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Traffic Sign Recognition.

Also, every Honda Accord comes with Honda’s exclusive ACE™ Body Structure that is specifically designed to help absorb the impact of a frontal collision.

The Sienna offers its comparable Toyota Safety Sense™ suite of safety features.
